Green Urban Transformation: experiences and lessons in China

Accelerated process of industrialization and urbanization in the past three decades in China has generated increased concerns over sustainable development inside and outside China. Conventional way of urbanization has proved unsustainable and sustainable urbanization is key to sustainable development. In this regard, the Chinese government has initiated programmes and made targets for green transformation. While urban green transformation receives no objection, implementation of such a strategy is faces with considerable challenges. In the process, some successful stories are good sources of experiences for sharing with other developing countries but lessons can be even more relevant in our pursuit to sustainable urbanization.

Questions for discussion:

The outcome of Rio+20: success or failure?
How we can work together to go fro a greener economy?
Consumption and production: equally important for sustainability or one is more important than the other?
Carbon equity and climate protection: conflict or consistent?
Consumer awareness: what is your perception?
