Steven Guanpeng Dong is a political scientist, communication advisor, public and international speaker. Prior to the current appointment as chair and director at the Tsinghua IPRSC, Dr Dong is also the Founder and Executive Director of Global Journalism Institute (GJI), a teaching and research platform for many creative projects including the long-established Tsinghua-Thomson Reuters Global Journalism Senior Practical Workshop Series, as well as the China-German Media Ambassador Program. Under his direction, GJI has worked with a number of leading global media organizations as Reuters, BBC, Xinhua and China Central Television together to host over 30 international workshops and conferences in promoting the professional standard of journalism and transparent governance in China.
Dr Dong is still an active PR and strategic communications practitioner in advising on communication strategies for the government and big Chinese and trans-national firms. He was elected Senior Deputy Secretary-General (2009) and Vice President (2011) of the China Public Relations Association (CPRA). Dr Dong also holds professorships of political communications at the State Council National School of Administration and the Chinese Communist Party's Central Academy of Socialism.
