BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Relations between China and Japan have recently improved, but the momentum is still fragile, China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng said here Friday.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks while meeting a delegation led by Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party Tanigaki Sadakazu and Secretary General of the Komei Party Yoshihisa Inoue at the Great Hall of the People.

Yu, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau said the ruling parties of the two countries should take the political leadership to ensure the two sides abide by the four political documents and the four-point consensus, properly handle historical issues, enhance political mutual trust, expand economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges, and realize continued stable and sound development of bilateral ties,

The ruling party exchange mechanism, established in 2006 while the bilateral relationship were facing severe political difficulties, played an important role in promoting the improvement and development of bilateral relationship, Yu said.

Tanigaki and Yoshihisa agreed with Yu that the regular meeting mechanism between ruling parties is an important channel for the two sides to strengthen communication and promote mutual trust.

They also voiced willingness to preserve and consolidate the momentum of improving relations and expand bilateral cooperation, for the benefits of the people of the two countries and the region.

Tanigaki, Yoshihisa and their delegates were in Beijing for a two-day meeting between the two parties and the CPC, the first between the two countries' ruling parties in six years.

Wang Jiarui, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting on Thursday and urged the two sides to properly handle the disputes to tap potential for the bilateral cooperation and expand common interests.
