Political advisors pool wisdom on poverty alleviation in China

BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Senior political advisors discussed measures to reduce poverty in China at a bi-weekly consultation session on Thursday.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), hosted and addressed the meeting.

According to a statement issued after the session, the advisors noted the country still faces arduous tasks to help its more than 70 million impoverished people in the countryside out of poverty.

They suggested that the government should set great store on poverty alleviation with the aim of building an all-round well-off society by 2020, a goal which includes requirements in GDP, income per capita, college enrollment rates and the number of doctors per 1,000 people.

The political advisors urged officials to improve their work style and take precise measures in each poverty-stricken regions based on their respective realities.
