BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Monday met a delegation from the European Parliament's largest group, the European People's Party (EPP), led by EPP president Manfred Weber.

Yu hailed the progress of China-Europe ties since the forging of diplomatic relations 40 years ago, citing strengthened trust and mutual understanding, as well as cooperation in such areas as politics, trade and culture.

"We hope to make joint efforts with Europe to enhance cooperation, and take the opportunity of the Belt and Road initiative to boost bilateral all-round strategic partnership," said Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Weber said the EPP highly valued ties with China, and the party wanted to further cement understanding about China and boost Europe-China cooperation.
