BEIJING, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Friday said that China cherished its friendship with Zimbabwe, and was ready to develop bilateral relations.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks when he met visiting Zimbabwe Senate Speaker Edna Madzongwe and her entourage in the Great Hall of the People.
Yu said that since the two countries had established diplomatic links 35 years ago, bilateral cooperation had been successful. He said China-Zimbabwe ties should be seen as a model of bilateral cooperation between China and African countries.
President Xi Jinping and his Zimbabwean counterpart Robert Mugabe met in April to develop a plan for the future growth of bilateral links, thus, putting bilateral relations on a fast track.
He said China and Zimbabwe should work effectively on implementing the important consensus reached by the heads of state of both countries.
Yu said the CPPCC was ready to enhance contact with the Zimbabwe Senate, strengthen exchanges and promote pragmatic cooperation in various areas.
Madzongwe said the Zimbabwe Senate was willing to learn from China's experience of social and economic development and to advance bilateral ties.
