A Brief Report on the Work of CCRP in 2010

I. Strengthening friendly cooperation with WCRP and ACRP

1. Last May, CCRP held the annual Executive Committee meeting which had been a grand success thanks to joint efforts from all sides. There were about 50 participatants from 18 countries in Asia attending the meeting. Mr. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr. Wang Gang, Vice Chairman of CPPCC, and Mr. Tian Congming, Chairman of the Subcommittee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of CPPCC met with the leadership of ACRP, and expressed the attitude of supporting CCRP’s further friendly cooperation with ACRP, WCRP and religious circles in various countries.

2. This March, CCRP sent a delegation to attend the International Buddhism High-Level Roundtable Meeting held by WCRP in Singapore, and illustrated the view of Chinese religious circle regarding the theme “Asia community: Healing after Trauma by Conflicts”.

3. This April, a CCRP delegation visited the RfP headquarters and met with its Moderator Krishkovsky and Secretary General Dr. William Vendley. Both sides exchanged views on intensifying communication and cooperation between CCRP and RfP, and reached many consensuses including the signing of documents like RfP Affiliates Agreement by Ven. Xue Cheng, Secretary-General of CCRP and Dr. William Vendley.

II. Actively engaging in exchanges with other RfP chapters

1. In August 2010, CCRP sent a delegation to attend the IPCR International Seminar in Seoul, deliberated and discussed with other participants regarding “healing East Asia’s historical trauma and realize regional peace, development and cooperation”.

2.This January, according to the bilateral agreement between CCRP and KCRP, CCRP received the delegation of KCRP Secretariat visiting China mainly as preparation for KCRP religious leaders’ visit in the latter half of the year. Both sides discussed about enriching the content and forms of exchanges.

3. This April, a CCRP delegation visited RfP/USA and RfP/Canada respectively. They briefed each other about one’s basic information, shared experiences, established contacts, and underwent initial discussion on furthering friendly exchanges.

III. Carrying out unique domestic functions to promote interfaith harmony

1. Hosting plenary meeting to boost communication between members

CCRP plenary session took place this March in Beijing with over a hundred members present. It reviewed and adopted the CCRP 2010 Work Report, shared experiences of different religions and places in staging functions, and adopted the CCRP 2011 Work Plan.

2. Organizing mainland religious figures to visit Taiwan region and promoting the two religious circles to contribute to the peaceful development of cross-straits relationship

This January, CCRP organized a “mainland religious delegation visiting Taiwan”, which has been the first joint visit of the five major religions’ representatives to Taiwan region for exchanges. The delegation was received by high attention and warm reception, with major religious communities and religious leaders inside the island meeting with the delegation respectively. The two sides also held a seminar themed “Religions Serving the Society”, during which they shared experiences and expanded consensus on religions’ active role in serving the society and the peaceful development of the cross-straits relationship.

3. Actively implementing religious harmony

This January, answering the Resolution of Observance of World Interfaith Harmony Week adopted by the UN 65th Assembly, China’s five major religions issued the Joint Statement on Advocating Religious Harmony, thus appealing to religious believers for taking active actions to implement the idea of harmony, and making efforts for constructing harmonious society and a harmonious world of ever-lasting peace.

4. Continuing prayers for peace of all religions in China after the world Victory Day of Anti-Fascist War.
