Wang Gang Met Secretary-General of WCRP

April 28, 2009, Wang Gang, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, met in Beijing the delegation of World Conference of Religion for Peace (WCRP, RfP since 2008) headed by Dr. William Vendley, Secretary-General of WCRP.

Wang said, being an inter-religious organization, RfP has been playing an important role in advocating mutual respect among different religions, promoting inter-faith exchanges and understanding, and pushing forward the world peace. In 2006, RfP indicated that it would respect China’s sovereignty and dignity on great issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet through signing the Meeting Minutes with CCRP. Wang said that CCRP hope and believe it will continue to get RfP’s understanding and support on great issues concerning China’s core interests. Wang also said, as a nation of various religions, China respects and protects citizens’ freedom of religious belief, which is its set policy. Chinese government encourages religious figures and believers to play active role in promoting economic development and building harmonious society. He also introduced China’s current economic and social development as well as the situation of the CPPCC.
