Ba Jin

Ba Jin, male, Han nationality, a native of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, born in November 1904; no party affiliation; left Chengdu Foreign Language Special School in 1921 before graduation

1927 - 1929  Studied in France

1929  Returned to China and engaged in literary creation since then

1935 - 1950  Editor-in-chief of Cultural Life Publishing House and Pingming Publishing House in Shanghai

From 1950  Editor-in-chief of Pingming Publishing House, vice-chairman of Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, chairman of Shanghai Branch of Chinese Writers' Association.

From September 1953  Served successively as vice-chairman of Chinese Writers' Association, editor-in-chief of Literary and Art Monthly, Harvest and Shanghai Literature

From 1962  Served as chairman of Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, subjected to rude treatment during "Cultural Revolution"

1977 - 1983  Chairman of Chinese Writers' Association, vice-chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and vice-chairman of CPPCC Shanghai Municipal Committee

1983 - present  Vice-Chairman of CPPCC National Committee and chairman of Chinese Writers' Association.

He was a delegate to 1st CPPCC Plenary Session, vice-chairman of 6th to 9th CPPCC National Committees; a deputy to 1st to 5th National People's Congresses (NPC) and a member of 5th NPC Standing Committee.

He passed away on October 17, 2005.
