Xu Kuangdi

Xu Kuangdi, male, Han nationality, a native of Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province, born in December 1937; joined Communist Party of China (CPC) in June 1983; began working in September 1959, a university graduate who majored in ferrous metallurgy at Department of Metallurgy, Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology, and a professor and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

1954 - 1959  Student at Department of Metallurgy, Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology, majoring in ferrous metallurgy

1959 - 1963  Teaching assistant at Department of Metallurgy, Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology and Beijing Iron and Steel Engineering Institute

1963 - 1971  Teaching assistant at Metallurgical Engineering Department and deputy director of Teaching and Research Section of Steelmaking Technology, Shanghai Institute of Technology

1971 - 1972  Sent to do manual labor at Fengyang May 7th Cadre School, Anhui Province

1972 - 1980  Teaching assistant, lecturer and director of Teaching and Research Section of Steelmaking Technology at Metallurgical Engineering Department, Shanghai Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Shanghai University of Technology

1980 - 1986  Vice-chairman, chairman, associate professor and professor of Metallurgical Engineering Department, Shanghai University of Technology (March 1982 - February 1983, participant in a cooperative research program and visiting scholar at Imperial College, UK; March 1984 - June 1985, deputy chief engineer and technical manager of Scandinavian Lance Corporation, Sweden)

1986 - 1989  Executive vice-president of Shanghai University of Technology

1989 - 1991  Deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Office and concurrently director of Shanghai Municipal Higher Education Bureau and secretary of its Leading Party Members' Group

1991 - 1992  Director-general of Shanghai Municipal Planning Commission and secretary of its Leading Party Members' Group

August to December 1992  Vice-mayor of Shanghai and concurrently director-general of Shanghai Municipal Planning Commission and secretary of its Leading Party Members' Group

December 1992 - 1994  Standing Committee member of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and vice-mayor of Shanghai

1994 - 1995  Deputy secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and vice-mayor of Shanghai

1995 - 2001  Deputy secretary of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and mayor of Shanghai (elected as academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995)

2001 - 2002  Secretary of Leading Party Members' Group of Chinese Academy of Engineering

2002 - present  President of Chinese Academy of Engineering and secretary of its Leading Party Members' Group

He was an alternate member of 14th CPC Central Committee and member of 15th CPC Central Committee and is a member of 16th CPC Central Committee.
