Xu Deheng |
|
Xu Deheng (1890-1990), male, a native of Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province. Took part in early years in the Revolution of 1911 and Movement in Expedition against Warlord Yuan Shikai. Graduated from Peking University and studied in France. Took part in the Young China Society organized by Li Dazhao and others in 1918, one of the organizers and leaders of the May 4th Movement of 1919. Instructor at Whampoa Military Academy, professor with Sun Yat-sen University and secretary-general of the General Political Department of the National Revolutionary Army during the Great Revolutionary Period (1924-27). Served as professor with Ji'nan University, Peking University and Peiping University after the defeat of the Great Revolution. Participated in organizing National Salvation Association of the North China Cultural Circles in 1935. Served as member of the People's Political Council during the Anti-Japanese War and sponsored creation of Jiu San Society in Chongqing. Served as professor with Peking University during the War of Liberation.
After liberation served as member of the 1st CPPCC NC, SC member of the 2nd, 3rd CPPCC NC, vice chairman of the 4th and 5th CPPCC NC, vice-director of the Administration Council Legislation Committee, minister of aquatic products, SC member of the 1st NPC, people's deputy to the 2nd and 3rd NPC, vice-chairman of the 4th, 5th and 6th NPC SC, chairman of Jiu San Society's 1st to 7th CC and honorary chairman of its 8th CC. |

Zhou Peiyuan (1902-1993), male, a native of Yixing, Jiangsu Province. Won Bachelor and Master's degrees at the University of Chicago USA, 1926, and doctoral degree at California Institute of Technology 1929, served as dean and professor, vice chairman of University Affairs Committee of Tsinghua University, professor, dean, vice president and president of Peking University, vice-chairman, acting chairman and chairman of China Association for Science and Technology, vice-president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
Joined Jiu San Society in 1952, served as member of Jiu San Society's 3rd CC, SC member of its 4th CC, vice chairman of its 5th and 6th CC, vice-chairman and chairman of its 7th CC, chairman of its 8th CC, and honorary chairman of its 9th CC, people's deputy to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th NPC, SC member of the 5th NPC, SC member of the 3rd and 4th CPPCC NC, vice chairman of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th CPPCC NC, chairman of China People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, chairman of Sino-Polish Friendship Association, honorary chairman of China Association for Science and Technology, and presidium member, academic member and academician of CAS. |

Wu Jieping, male, Han nationality, born in January 1917, a native of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. Joined Jiu San Society in 1952 and joined CPC in 1956, incumbent honorary Chairman of Jiu San Society's 11th CC. President and professor with Peking Union Hospital of Tsinghua University, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences, honorary academician of American College of Physicians and honorary academician of Edinburgh Royal College of Surgeons, and foreign academician of the Belgian Royal Academy of Medicine, honorary academician of Hong Kong College of Surgeons. Honorary president of China Association for Science and Technology, honorary president of Chinese Medical Association, honorary member of International Society of Surgery, honorary member of American Urological Association and honorary president of the Western Returned Scholars Association.
Graduated from Yanjing University with bachelor degree in 1937. Pursued postgraduate studies 1937-1942 at Peking Union Medical College and obtained doctoral degree. Served as resident doctor, chief resident doctor and doctor in charge of Peking Union Medical College Hospital 1942-1945, surgery lecturer, associate professor and full professor and vice-president of Beijing Medical College 1946-1960. In between, researched at the University of Chicago USA 1947-1948, served as chief of preparatory section, vice president and president of Beijing No. 2 Medical College 1960-1970, and has served as vice president, president and honorary president of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, vice president, president, honorary president of China Union Medical University since 1970. Served as vice-chairman of NPC Standing Committee 1993-2003, won honorary natural science doctoral degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong 1997, and honorary science doctoral degree from Hong Kong University 2001.
Once served as member of Jiu San Society's 7th CC, vice chairman of its 8th CC, chairman of its 9th and 10th CC, people's deputy to the 7th NPC, vice-chairman of the SC of the 8th and 9th NPC, SC member of the 5th and 6th CPPCC NC, Chairman of the Chinese Medical Association and Chairman of the Western Returned Scholars Association. |

President of Peking University Health Science Center, professor, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, president of the Western Returned Scholars Association, president of China Association for Science and Technology, member of faculty evaluation of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, vice-chairman of S&T committee under the Ministry of Education, president of International Society for Pathophysiology, council member of International Society for Heart Research and concurrent chairman of its China Branch, member of nomination committee of International Pharmaceutical Federation, council member of International Molecular and Cellular Cardiac Society, and council chairman of Chinese Association of Pathophysiology
Specialized in pathophysiology specialty at the Department of Medicine in Shanghai No. 1 Medical College 1962-1968. Served as clinical doctor of several grassroots hospitals in Lintong County, Shaanxi Province 1968-1979. Pursued postgraduate studies at Xi'an Medical College 1979-1982 and obtained Master's Degree. Served 1982-2000 as lecturer, associate professor and full professor at Beijing Medical University, as associate research fellow, vice chief of Cardiovascular Section, research fellow, deputy chief of Cardiovascular Medicine Institute and chief of Cardiovascular Basic Research Institute and vice director of No. 3 Medical Clinical College and dean of Graduate School. In between, made researches at Emory University in USA from 1985 to 1987, served as guest professor at Emory University USA for three months every year, elected academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997. Served 2000-2002 as executive vice-president of Peking University, chairman of its Graduate School, Health Science Center, Biomedical Interdisciplinary Research Center, and director of its cardiovascular sciences Institute. And served as Chairman of Jiu San Society CC and vice-chairman of NPC Standing Committee since 2002.
